NIJ restates opposition to students’ irregular class attendance, indecent dressing

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba Lagos, has restated its commitment to ensuring regular class attendance by students and adherence to decent dressing.

Provost of the institution, Mr Gbenga Adefaye restated the school’s commitment to the above rules during an interaction with members of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).

He said the rules applied to both full time and part time students, adding that the school was unwilling to bend rules that have helped it attain its status.

According to him, adherence to laid-down standards had accounted to why the school has largely remained free of scandals.

“You are not likely to hear any scandal about our admission process or certificate forgery because the system is designed to protect you and I”, Mr Adefaye said Addressing the issue of online classes being suggested in some quarters, Deputy Provost of the school, Dr Dele Omojuyigbe said the school would only follow directives by the regulatory body..

“The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) under which we operate wants physical classes; however, if there is any minor adjustment, the management would let you know”, he submitted.

Requests made by the SRC at the meeting included increasing the window for instalmental payment of school fees, especially for the graduating Higher National Diploma (HND) II class; beefing up of security on campus, regular power supply, proper maintenance of the football pitch as well as the upgrading of facilities in the Post-graduate lecture room.
