NIJ Graduates 707 Students at 7th Convocation Ceremony

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos, held its 7th Convocation Ceremony yesterday, Tuesday, May 6, conferring academic certificates on 707 graduands from the 2022/2024 academic sessions.

The convocation, held at the Sir Kesington Adebutu Media Resource Centre, witnessed the award of National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) certificates to deserving students who have successfully completed their studies in various fields of Mass Communication.

The event was graced by eminent personalities in the Nigerian media industry and academia, including the Chairman of the Governing Council of NIJ, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, a veteran journalist and former governor of Ogun State; Mr Sam Amuka, Publisher of Vanguard Newspapers; and Mr. Ray Ekpu, former Newswatch co-founder and Vice Chairman of the NIJ Governing Council. Also in attendance were the Provost of NIJ, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye; top management staff; faculty members; alumni; parents; and well-wishers.

The importance of ethical journalism was emphasized Graduands were also urged to uphold integrity and professionalism as they transition into the media and communication landscape as they recite the convocation oath.

Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, Provost of the institution, congratulated the graduands and applauded the efforts of the academic and non-academic staff in preparing the students for the demands of the industry. He also highlighted recent achievements of the institution.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of special awards to outstanding students and recognitions for academic excellence and leadership. The graduating class was charged to be torchbearers of responsible communication and to contribute meaningfully to the media sector and the nation at large.

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism, established in 1963 and affiliated with the International Press Institute (IPI), remains a premier monotechnic institution committed to nurturing media professionals through rigorous academic training, practical exposure, and ethical grounding.
