*VINTAGE PRESS WELCOMES NIJ STUDENTS*
As part of their academic activities to acquire more practical knowledge about operations in the media industry, the 100 level students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba-Ikeja Lagos, today Thursday May 12 embarked on a media excursion to Vintage Press Limited, Mushin, Lagos, publishers of The Nation newspaper.
The excursion which was facilitated by the print lecturer, Mr. Tolulope Ojemuyiwa was an eye opener to the young journalists in the making.
Mr. Sunday Adeleke, Executive Director, finance and administration of the media organisation was glad to welcome the visiting students as he quickly handed them over to the Assistant Editor, Weekend Mr. Innocent Duru, who took time to take the students on the rudiments of reporting and made it highly interactive.
Duru shared his experiences with the students and enjoined them to do background checks before carrying out any assignments, ” this is very necessary because it helps you get accurate report” he said.
In addition, Mr. Edozie Udeze, head, Art desk advised the students to remain focused and always make sure they work on their elocution and be neatly dressed at all times, “you must be very sound and be good looking for you to be a journalist” he said.
Other staff on ground to guide the students were Mr. Dare Odufowokan, Political Editor, Kwentua, Advert Manager, Sina Fadare, Editor Gbelegbo (Yoruba), Taofeek Salako, Assistant Editor, Business and Mrs. Obi. Head, Library
Complementary copies of the company’s publications, The Nation and Gbelegbo (Yoruba) newspapers were however presented to the students.
