*Veteran journalist hails student journalists on first debate*
Abiola Aberuagba, the head of news and current affairs, Ray Power 100.5 FM, has lauded the students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ogba-Lagos for hosting a successful debate.
In her congratulatory message on Wednesday, the journalist encouraged the students to practice a research and objective-based journalism.
She added that, at this period of the Nigerian election, “objective reportage of news will be key.”
She further urged journalists to shun fake news during the period of election and should embrace fact-checking.
“I feel proud of the students for participating in this debate. Because they actually showed their prowess as communicators” she said.
“You know at this point in time, we are going into the polls.
“Especially because of the topic they discussed today. We are going to the polls in the next few weeks, so we need to look back at ourselves and expect the students to push out objective information. That is, to be objective in the reportage.
“Fake news will always be out of the there, it is now for the journalists to fact-check before they go out for the news.”
